Director Defends Hilton's Bloody Musical

Paris HiltonAt time of publishing, only 12% of TMZ voters want to see Paris Hilton's new horror/musical, "Repo! The Genetic Opera" -- but the director stands by his flick!

Negative criticism was rampant on the web -- including the TMZ comments board -- about the 80-second teaser showing a singing Hilton, evisceration, and a growed-up Spy Kid. Today, director Darren Lynn Bousman took to the blogosphere to write, "I stick by my promise -- REPO is unlike anyting you have ever seen." He also adds it's "not an easy movie to grasp" from the teaser alone.

He addresses the Paris issue specifically, writing, "I know some people where taken aback by 'PARIS' in the trailer -- I stand by my decision of casting her ... Her voice is great -- and her character is great!"

"It is not some cheesy musical."

LOL! So what do you think the director was going to say? Casting Paris was a mistake -- she's just "OK" in this film? Right. Wake up people! He has to pay his investors and make profits.

BTW, Repo was originally a stage musical. Actually, I thought the film clip was stupid. It will either be regarded as brilliant, capture a cult following, or laughed out of theatres.

17. Evisceration? Ew. Just what we need another slasher flick but oh no everyone's more concerned about the fact that Paris is in it, no criticism for gore...as usual. And yeah, that's what trailers are for to catch people's interest, I'm sure we've all said yes or no to seeing a movie based on the trailer. Showgirls is now a cult classic because it is soooo incredibly bad and that's exactly where this one is likely headed. I thought Paris told us she is going to be doing charity work, turning over a new leaf, did that include starring in garbage?

18. Her voice, - her character, - when are they going to realize that we don't like her, - in ANYTHING. It's just that simple.

19. Darren, please. I think some of the performances will be amazing...Paul Sorvino and Sarah Brightman. But from what I've seen of PH in the clips, it's a lot of direction with OK, mediocre results.

I won't see the film..........I don't care to see evisceration on people terrified out of their minds all put to rock music. From what I could see, it's still "Saw" put to music and that is cheesy. It took Sorvino weeks of working on this film until he figured out what you were trying to do. Paul is one of my favorite actors.

21. Paris Hilton has less box office draw than Lindsay Lohan.

The thought of PH being the lead actress in anything other than her own home-made sex videos makes me laugh so hard, I hope a defribulator is nearby.

But, if I am PH, I'd take any opportuity to have a job on Hollywood.....wouldn't you ?

22. I am looking forward to this movie. Not in a 'oh joy I can't wait to see it' sense. More in a 'ya now this generation can have their own Rocky Horror movie sense. This movie will either be bad bad, or so bad it is good bad.

23. Ummmm, dumb arse... PEOPLE DON' LIKE PARIS HILTON... SO, they wouldn't pay a freaking penny to see the dumb skank do anything. By the way, she can't sing, she can't act and she is a TROLL..... I guess that would mean you made a bad decision in casting the skanky porn slut.... paris, we would rather pay to watch you kill yourself, you dirty little whore...

26. Oh, right – Paris was so good, she had to work with a voice coach. (True story.) They hired Hilton to use her notoriety the same way she’s using them. She was hired to play a supporting role that is the fame-seeking daughter of one of the film’s lead roles. (Now there’s a stretch.)

27. You know, it doesn't seem that bad if you take it for what it is. It's not going to be a great movie and it's (hopefully) not trying to be a great movie. It's campy the way that Rocky Horror was, although probably won't be as timeless or socially effectual due to the increasingly sophisticated age that we live in now.

I just don't see a need to get so upset about it - it's just a low-budget quirky film, and I think that casting Paris was pretty clever, given that her notoriety will keep the title popping up on free advertisers like TMZ. Any other discussions about her talent, blah blah, are moot. A little surprised that Sarah Brightman decided to go for it, though. I guess she's trying to cultivate a younger fanbase.

28. Bousman says this is not some cheesy musical- right, it is a gorey musical .
What do you expect from the director of the god awful SAW movies ?

CANADIANS do love blood and guts.

The Canackers are the ones who practically invented the Slasher genre as we know it today , way back in the early 1970's .

30. I was invited to be in the audience for 2 days of that shoot. They were looking to fill seats for what I assume was an opera scene.
The extras werent paid at all but were expected to spend up to 12 hours on each day, hanging around the set.

One of those days, Sarah Brightman was singing and I would have liked to have seen that, but the thought of having to hear Paris Hilton sing was just to much for me to bear so I didnt show up.
