Sharpton: Griffin Dropped for Dropping N-Bomb

Eddie Griffin thought he'd shock the swells at a big Black Enterprise event over the weekend by littering his act with N-words, but the comic was the one who got the real jolt when the mag's owner gonged his routine, and tossed him off the stage!
Al Sharpton, Eddie Griffin
Rev. Al Sharpton tells TMZ that Griffin took the stage as the headliner and did his best Michael Richards impression, blistering the mostly African-American crowd with a barrage of N-bombs, and wailing, "Why are some black leaders telling us to stop using the N word?"

Griffin's mike was promptly cut, and Black Enterprise owner/publisher Earl Graves stomped on stage and proclaimed, "We ... will not allow our culture to go backwards ... We will pay Mr. Griffin all that we owe him but we will not allow him to finish the show if that's the way he's going to talk." Oh, snap!

The crowd gave Graves a standing ovation -- and Rev. Al, speaking the next day at the event, gave Graves props for his axing of Griffin. A rep for Griffin had no comment.

91. Kudos to the leaders who stand up for what is morally right.
If we want our young people to stop using the N-word, then we need more and ongoing actions like this one in our schools, homes etc., as lessons in moral ethics, self respect, and self pride . During a session of outreach in a high school, I addressed a student regarding the N-Word she had just called her friend. When I asked her if she knew the meaning of the word, she had no idea. My explanation brought silence to the classroom. They had no idea. I'm sure that the purpose for the 1st Amendment "Free Speech "was not intended for the degradation of humanity. We use it as a license to kill, but it's not a weapon. We should view Freedom of Speech as a right to express our more important issues, that will move us forward and up... not backwards..

95. Who's idea was it to book that fool? Anyone who has had the misfortune of witnessing Eddie's base act, would agree he's the n@#$. Some words just work, sometimes.
Eddie uses horrible language to mask his lack of talent and creativity.
Mr. Graves should pull the plug on the incompetent nit that hired him. As for the N word,
oh never mind...

96. To #8 and #15 google Jena 6 and you tell me why these organizations have to exist. Everybody google Jena 6 and tell me where is the fair and equal existence in America?

97. Now, let's get rid of Al Sharpton. People like him are the reason the N word exists in the first place.

98. I shot most of this stuff right before Eddie worked is comedy magic in Miami. Seems to tie into the discussion nicely.

99. It's a start. Next let's see them bury the "B___h" word. Bee-otch. It is never used in a kind or loving way. People that refer to their girls, women as a B...... are degrading them. And the sad thing is the women don't know it. It's not cute, it's not kind. They are insulting women and degrading them, same as calling them whores. Women need to take a stand and men need to respect women. Yeh, I'm an old timer that was raised not to hit women, not to call them names and not to swear around them. I still live that way. And I'll never forget the day that my 10 and 12 year old girls came in crying because a neighbor boy called them "B" . His parents didn't see anything wrong with it either.

103. 23. People need to stop being so sensitive about WORDS. They are WORDS, are we all in grade school?! I know you are but what am I. Black people are doing great. Oprah is the most powerful woman on TV, athletes are making millions, rappers have brought white kids together with black kids and the Oscars are FINALLY going where they should, to amazing black actors. I see black men and women in fancier cars then I will ever have and I'm still white and poor. There is still racism but please know who you are and rise about it and stride on. Stop getting mad and live your life to the fullest.

As for the angry black people here, I'm sick of being chewed out for the ignorance of my ancestors. I didn't do it!! I'm a woman, do I chew out men because males still rape and cheat? No. My man didn't do it. Hold your head high and know who you are. Be proud of your heritage and the GOOD things that it has provided. Being angry only fuels the fire of hate. Some of us love you simply because of the human you are. Not everyone sees color.

104. you know there's really no such thing as free speech...it's been paid for...in blood....and in my opinion...it dose not aply here...or anywhere....words always have repercutions and emotions and remifications attached to them...speaches start wars...if we take the time to see what our words actually accomplish...before we speak them....hell what am i saying ? speach is free....it's the thinking that costs us...aint it ? who gives a damn what words insite...just so long as we get to speak anything we want anywhere and at any time...right?...that is the whole free speach argument right ?

Posted at 10:20PM on Sep 13th 2007 by terrence

105. I agree with Mr. Graves but how come no one condemns majority of rappers who repeatedly use the "N Word" as well as other awful things?
