61. I also need to add that just because a breeder has a website, that does NOT mean that they are running a puppy mill. Many serious hobby breeders (who only breed 1 or 2 litters a year) have a website. When you think about buying a dog, be prepared to ask the breeder a lot of questions and expect to be asked a lot of questions yourself. Responsible breeders care a great deal about the homes that their dogs go to and won't sell just because someone can cut a check. If a breeder is willing to sell you a dog without asking a lot about your family, living situation and general lifestyle- DON'T BUY! You don't want the dog if the breeder doesn't care what kind of home it's going to.
Great breeders will also take a dog back NO QUESTIONS ASKED if for some reason the home isn't working out.

62. It seems the only reason why she went and bought a yorkie puppy is because PH has been photoed with her yorkie pup. Brittany really does have some serious emotional problems right now! I was feeling a bit sorry for her but her purposely showing herself front and back with her legs wide open is definetly a sign of exibitionism and now I I am really concerned for her babies.She is not right in the head! DCYF and the SPCA needs to step in and check on the children and the poor little puppy,bird,and whatever else she has responsibility for on at least a weekly basis

64. Do a search for "puppy mills" and "puppy mill pictures" to see what is wrong with what she did.

Don't buy from pet stores, you doom another puppy for every one you so-called 'save'. All the while, the sire and dam are stuck in those hell holes and will be bred to near death. These are living things, not products.

I don't support animal rights, but I'm a firm believer in animal welfare. There is a huge difference.

65. *ALL* puppies in pet stores come from puppy mills, not 98%. No reputable breeder, or even half-assed breeder, would breed and sell to pet stores. Some mills are better than others, but they're all horrible and the dogs suffer. Go to a sheler and rescue...save money and a life.

67. I love that this passes for a news story! If I was famous, I would have been on your site a few months ago because I, too, bought a puppy from a puppy store, though I didn't quite pay that much.

I've never been someone who defends Britney's actions, but I don't see how you can judge her for this. Puppies from stores need homes just as much as the ones from shelters do. In fact, if no one buys them, they end up in shelters, where they are sometimes put down, just like all of the other dogs, if no one comes to adopt or claim them. Do I condone charging thousands for an animal? Not really, but stores want to make a profit on the hundreds they pay a breeder, and for that, I must just shrug and say: Capitalism is what this country is built on.

The idea of puppy mills still being used in a widespread fashion is a myth and nothing more. At least in the state of California, the store is required by law to provide any buyer with papers proving the dog's origins, and it is the responsibility of the buyer to follow up and ensure the papers are legit. If they find them not to be, it is their moral duty to report the store.

You guys seem to care more about this dog than her kids. Buying a dog is not a flippant activity, I will give you that; it is a life-changing decision, especially with a young puppy who needs to be fed multiple times a day, crated, potty trained, and obedience trained. But they are not any more work than children, and she seems to have dove head first into motherhood without much thought. Which is worse? At least you can leave a dog home alone for a few hours without it getting into too much trouble; you can't do that with babies.

68. This is 2007, people. No one should be buying puppies from pet stores. And, if you don't know why, please go google "puppy mill." Britney could have bought a well-bred purebred Yorkie from a responsible breeder for much less money.

70. So what she gets a dog! Leave her the hell alone! How many other people in the world have a yorkie puppies? What kind of animal do the people have that write these stories? Why don't we just leave her alone and let her sort her life out on her own!!! We all know each and everyone of us have family fights with owr mom's, dad's, sisters, and brother. Give it a rest.

75. i am not a fan, nor am i a hater. brit needs some serious help. what does she pay all these people for?! no one is helpng her to make good judgement. you know she says before she goes out, "hey guys, how does this outfitlook?". does no one say, "like trash brit, try something else. by the way are you wearing underwear?"? as far as the kids go, she's a young mother, and she's going to make mistakes. again, she has all these nannies, friends, family, etc. why is no one saying anything?! brit, i am a mother, and a down ass chick. if you need some help, just give me a call.~channing
